New York Comic Con (NYCC) by ReedPOP is one of the largest pop culture and comic conventions in the world. Held annually in New York City, NYCC is a four-day event dedicated to the latest in comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies, and television. This year, Marcato was proud to be a technology partner in the production and execution of this epic event alongside four other products from the Patron Technology family! Marcato was implemented by the ReedPOP team to help streamline their processes in a few key areas:
The panels and screenings at NYCC span every fandom imaginable! From the new Are You Afraid of the Dark cast to Billy Dee Williams of Star Wars, it’s a pop culture junkie’s dream. ReedPOP utilized Marcato’s powerful public web forms to accept panel applications from a large number of applicants through their website. With the Marcato database full of applications, the ReedPOP team was able to easily vet the data and accept which panels they wanted to ultimately make up the overall event program.
What is an event like NYCC without a companion app? Attendees could easily download the NYCC app, put together by fellow Patron Technology product Greencopper, to catch the latest details on the program schedule, exhibitors and their exclusives, and artist alley booth numbers. All of this information was first populated in Marcato’s centralized database through the use of public web forms where exhibitors and artists could upload photos and descriptions of their exclusive content. Then, with our seamless integration with Greencopper, this information was pushed directly to the NYCC app! The ReedPOP team was also able to make on-site changes on the fly through Marcato, ensuring they were giving attendees only the most up to date information.
With Marcato’s industry-leading credential tools, the ReedPOP team was able to assign and allocate credentials to speakers and industry guests using public web forms! This efficient way to advance credentials was then integrated with Patron Technology product ShowClix for secure issuance at the will-call desk and scanning into the main floor at the Javits Center. Talk about easy!
As the designated on-site team member for Marcato, it was incredible to see all of the pieces come together to help the production of this massive event in real-time. In addition to ShowClix and Greencopper, I also got the chance to work closely with fellow Patron Technology team members from Thuzi (who provided experiential marketing with various brand activations throughout the event), and Token (who provided a cashless experience for attendees with RFID wristbands).
But I must say, as much fun as I had behind the scenes, I was equally impressed with the cosplay efforts of the fans! I saw so many amazing recreations of famous characters from my favorite comics, movies, and television shows. The attendees really do make up the heart and soul of this fandom phenomenon, and they came out in full force this year. I can’t wait to see what NYCC 2020 will bring!
